Branch Manager
Denali National Park & Preserve
Alaska Geographic is looking to hire a Branch Manager for its Denali operations. Alaska Geographic is a not-for-profit organization, which works in cooperation with federal and state land management agencies to provide books, other educational materials and interpretive services to visitors of public lands. Funds generated from these activities are used to support education and research programs and projects throughout the state of Alaska.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Manages the Denali store and all its outlets, which include Toklat, the Wilderness Access Center, the Backcountry Information Center, and Talkeetna.
- Supervises the branch leadership team which includes a bookkeeper, merchandiser, and warehouse manager
- Reviews, selects and obtains agency and AK Geo approval for inventory and maintains inventory
- Maintains POS computerized systems
- Manages the branch budget
- Maintains accurate inventory and financial records
- Supervises cash management and banking duties
- Completes reports required by the central office and agency
- Hires, trains, and supervises 17+ seasonal branch staff
- Provides payroll information to central office bi-weekly and coordinates branch employee benefits
- Participates in applicable partner agency business
- Maintains positive relationship with agency (NPS)
- Promotes Alaska Geographic in the local community
- Maintains regular communication with central office and participates in weekly branch management meetings with central office
- Informs the Director of Sales and Services of on-site activities that affect AK Geographic
- Leads weekly Denali staff meetings
- Communicates Alaska Geographic’s mission and services to the visiting public
- Responsible for maintaining the store facilities and the supervision of store improvements
- Manages retail and association business operations in accordance with the Alaska Geographic Operations Manual
Requirements
- 5+ years experience in retail and business management
- Strong retail accounting background
- Familiar with Alaska’s cultural and natural history
- Understanding of the challenges of working in a fast-paced environment
- Effective leader of a large retail team
- Ability to work independently while maintaining strong connection with the state-wide leadership team
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
Position & Wage:
8 month benefited position. Salary DOE
