Branch Manager

Morris Thompson Cultural and Visitors Center (Fairbanks)

Alaska Geographic is looking to hire a Branch Manager for its bookstore at the Morris Thompson Cultural and Visitors Center in Fairbanks. Alaska Geographic is a not-for-profit organization, which works in cooperation with federal and state land management agencies to provide books, other educational materials and interpretive services to visitors of public lands. Funds generated from these activities are used to support education and research programs and projects throughout the state of Alaska.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Reviews, selects and obtains agency and Alaska Geographic approval for inventory and maintains inventory
  • Maintains POS computerized systems
  • Manages the branch budget
  • Maintains accurate inventory and financial records
  • Supervises cash management and banking duties
  • Completes reports required by the central office and agency
  • Hires, trains, and supervises retail staff
  • Provides payroll information to central office bi-weekly and coordinates branch employee benefits
  • Participates in applicable partner agency business
  • Maintains positive relationship with multiple agency partners
  • Promotes Alaska Geographic in local community
  • Maintains regular communication with Central Office and participates in weekly branch management meetings with central office
  • Informs the Director of Sales and Services of on-site activities that affect AK Geographic
  • Communicates Alaska Geographic’s mission and services to the visiting public
  • Responsible for maintaining the store facilities and the supervision of store improvements
  • Manages retail and association business operations in accordance with the Alaska Geographic Operations Manual

Requirements

  • 2-3 years experience in retail and business management
  • Familiar with Alaska’s cultural and natural history
  • Understanding of the challenges of working in a seasonally fast-paced work environment
  • Effective leadership skills
  • Ability to work independently while maintaining strong connection with the state-wide leadership team
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

Position & Wage:

12 month position with full-time summer hours and part-time winter hours. Salary DOE
