Discover fascinating adaptations that help flora and fauna thrive in the ever-changing habitat of the intertidal zone. Explore the mud flats, tide pools, and beaches of Kachemak Bay during the one of the lowest tides of the year, by boat and on foot. This course is offered in partnership with the Center for Alaskan Coastal Studies.

Accreditation
The University of Alaska Anchorage offers one professional development credit (level 500) for an additional $69 fee.

Times and Location
Participants meet at the Alaska Islands and Ocean Visitor Center in Homer, at 9:00 am on the first day.  The course ends at approximately 12:00 pm for participants not taking the course for credit, and at approximately 4:00 pm for those taking the course for credit.

Hiking Distances and Physical Fitness
boatjpgField Seminars are active learning experiences. Participants must be capable walkers, in good health, and equipped for sudden changes in weather. This course includes up to two miles of hiking and/or 500 foot elevation gain per day, over uneven and slippery terrain. This course also includes boat-based activities, and participants must be able to transfer between land and small boats.

Lodging and Meals
Accommodations include overnights in a lodge with a shared common area.  Participants should expect to share a room and private bath with at least one other person.  All meals are provided.
