Development Director
Alaska Geographic Central Office Anchorage, AK
The Alaska Geographic Association seeks an experienced development professional to launch individual and corporate donor and grant programs while maintaining and building upon an active membership program. The Development Director’s responsibilities will include grants, major donor cultivation, direct solicitation, events, and membership program management. He/she will work closely with the Executive Director and the Board of Directors, all of whom share fundraising obligations.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Develop and implement a comprehensive fundraising plan to meet budget goals
- Work closely with the Executive Director and Board to strengthen and expand fundraising contacts
- Manage foundation funding, including tracking deadlines, drafting grants and reports, and prospecting for new foundation funding
- Expand membership through appeals and recruitment
- Manage membership fulfillment, recognition and retention
- Refine programs for donor retention, renewal, and acknowledgment
- Plan and execute fundraising/friend-raising events
- Manage direct solicitation program, solicit donors and provide support for board and volunteer solicitation of donors
- Develop and implement strategies for major gift campaigns
- Manage donor databases and evaluate the effectiveness of fundraising initiatives
- Research and execute new programs, such as electronic giving, that capitalize on opportunities to recruit new donors and other constituencies
- Work closely with program managers and agency partners to communicate program successes and opportunities for support
- Develop collegial relationships with development colleagues in other environmental and non-profit organizations as sources of advice, information and support
Qualifications The ideal candidate will be highly motivated, very organized, self-directed, an excellent communicator, and will meet the following qualifications:
- Strong initiative to meet specific goals
- Superior speaking, writing, and analytic skills
- At least three years experience in fundraising, including major donor programs, grant writing, and direct mail
- Demonstrated ability to motivate staff, board members and volunteers to reach development goals
- Demonstrated management experience, including managing timelines/budgets
- Ability both to lead and to support the work of others
- Ability to work comfortably in a high-energy office as a member of a team
- A college degree, with a preference for additional fundraising training
- A passion for Alaska and its public lands
