Yukon Delta National Wildlife Refuge

The Yukon Delta National Wildlife Refuge encompasses over 21 million acres and is the nation’s second largest wildlife refuge. The delta, a vast maze of tundra lakes and ponds, dominates the landscape.

Stretching from Nunivak Island in the Bering Sea to Aniak, 300 miles to the east, the refuge supports one of the largest aggregations of water birds in the world and a diverse population of mammals, fishes and birds including musk ox, salmon and puffins. In addition, the refuge is the ancestral home of the Yup’ik Eskimo whose subsistence lifestyle still depends upon the riches of the refuge lands.
