The Wilderness Idea Tongass National Forest June 15-21 $850

Experience the wildlife, glaciers, and wilderness solitude of Holkham Bay, southeast of Juneau. Join wilderness manager Tim Lydon on foot and by kayak as we explore the nation's largest National Forest. In partnership with Discovery Southeast and Alaska Discovery. No kayaking experience necessary.
Space Available 10 spaces will be available when registration opens on January 6, 2009.
Accreditation
The University of Alaska Anchorage offers three professional development credits (level 500). The credit fee has been included in the course fee.
Times and Location Participants meet at the Alaska Discovery office in Juneau on the evening of June 15. Participants will travel to and from Holkham Bay by boat. The course ends on the afternoon of June 21.
Hiking Distances and Physical Fitness
Field Seminars are active learning experiences. Participants must be capable walkers, in good health, and equipped for sudden changes in weather. This course includes up to five miles of hiking and/or 1,500 foot elevation gain per day, over uneven terrain. This course also includes multiple days of kayaking activities in double kayaks. No kayaking experience is necessary.
Lodging and Meals Accommodations are not included for the evening of June 15, but are provided the nights of June 16-20. Accommodations are in a rustic backcountry campsite, and participants will share tents. Meals are prepared in the campsite and are simple, hearty, and family style.
