Whales of Icy Strait Tongass National Forest July 18-24 $850
  

Kayak through humpback whale feeding grounds in the rich waters near Point Adolphus in southeast Alaska. Explore forest ecology from a naturalist's perspective with Bob Christensen. In partnership with Discovery Southeast and Spirit Walker Expeditions. No kayaking experience necessary. This course is limited to 10 participants.
Accreditation The University of Alaska Anchorage offers three professional development credits (level 500). The credit fee has been included in the course fee.
Times and Location Participants meet at the Alaska Discovery office in Juneau on the evening of July 18. Participants will travel to/from Gustavus by small plane and to/from Icy Strait by boat. The course ends on the afternoon of July 24.
Hiking Distances and Physical Fitness Field Seminars are active learning experiences. Participants must be capable walkers, in good health, and equipped for sudden changes in weather. This course includes up to four miles of hiking and/or 1,000 foot elevation gain per day, over uneven terrain. This course also includes multiple days of kayaking activities in double kayaks. No kayaking experience is necessary.
Lodging and Meals Accommodations are not included for the evening of July 18, but are provided the nights of July 19-23. Accommodations are in a rustic backcountry campsite, and participants will share tents. Meals are prepared in the campsite and are simple, hearty, and family style.
