Shot in stunning high definition, Gold Fever: Race to the Klondike is the theatrical visitor center documentary for Klondike Gold Rush National Historical Park.
In the summer of 1896 gold was discovered in the Yukon, setting off tens of thousands of propectors on a grueling journey seeking riches and adventure. The frenzy of the Klondike Gold Rush lasted only two short years, but its cultural and historic legacy lives on today.
Gold Fever: Race to the Klondike combines historical reenactments, archival photographs, and scenic footage of Klondike Gold Rush National Historical Park to bring this dramatic story to life. The film captures the stampeders' journey through the unforgiving Yukon terrain and their struggles in the new boom towns of Dyea, Skagway, and Dawson.
Although only a few ever struck it rich, not all of the prospectors left empty-handed. In the end, the stampede for ruches was not only about gold--as one prospector recalled, "I had 35 cents in my pocket when I set foot in Alaska, and I made exactly nothing. But if I could turn back time, I would do it for less than that."
