Haida Quest

Mary Razzell

Price: $10.95
Member price: $9.31

Sixteen-year-old Chicago-born Lucy is placed with a Polish grandmother she has never met in a place she has never been: the Sunshine Coast of British Columbia. There she embarks on a quest to find her biological father, a quest that takes her to the Queen Charlotte Islands and to Tom Haley, a well-known Haida carver.

Lucy becomes pregnant in Grade 12. With her mother gone, her grandmother in the hospital and her father hostile to her claim, she is truly on her own. As she travels the road from innocence to motherhood, Lucy encounters rejection and racism. But ultimately she gathers strength from her Polish and Haida elders, from whom she learns the importance of love and respect, not only of self, but of all life. For ages 12 and up.
